Between stops on the Danube just motoring along can be
fun. The receivers we are given to use
when on a guided tour also have recorded commentaries and a GPS. You when you pass a village or a ruined
castle on a hilltop you get some background.
The batteries need a charge every 4 hours or so but otherwise quite
good.
They even have a self-guided walking tour feature for a
pretty impressive list of towns and cities.
And if you get lost they will guide you back to the ship.
If ever I can get the photos on my camera-camera uploaded I
will post a link to shots of the odd castle and some very pretty little
villages alongside the river.
Ferries that cross the river are regularly-spaced. They are clearly underpowered for the current
here, which I would think is in excess of 5 knots from the look of the wake
around the bouys. But the ferries are
attached to an overhead cable and so the engines don’t need to fight the
current, just move them across.
